One Of Those Days

It was one of those days, you check the reports the
afternoon before and it looks like it will be
waist to chest and fun.  Then you check once more before
bed and that swell seemed to just disappear.
Wake up and go check it and just as you feared its's
knee high and shows no promise.  Then as the tide
pushes in so does that swell, no one out and empty
peaks lining the beach.  It's the days that make it worth it,
you just have to pretend there isn't 16 inches of snow
and you're not wearing full winter suits.

No one out as far as the eye can see.

This might be a reason so many great waves go unridden.

First tracks.

Snow covered A-frames.

Missed it by that much...

There's always time for one more session.

It Sure Is Beginning To Feel Like Winter

Cold and Lonely

Good Luck

The beauty of this place is not that the lineups are empty during the storm,
it's that they are still empty the day after.
Even when it looks like this.

It's Never Easy

Early morning sunrises in Maine.

“Golden retrievers are not bred to be guard dogs, and considering the size of their hearts and their irrepressible joy in life, they are less likely to bite than to bark, less likely to bark than to lick a hand in greeting. In spite of their size, they think they are lap dogs, and in spite of being dogs, they think they are also human, and nearly every human they meet is judged to have the potential to be a boon companion who might, at many moment, cry, "Let's go!" and lead them on a great adventure.”

"A person can learn a lot from a dog, even the loopy ones.  They teach you to live each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart.  You will learn to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight.  Mostly though they will teach you about friendship, selflessness, and above all else unwavering loyalty."

It's never easy but it's always worth it.

There Are Good Days, And There Are Days Like This

Waking up to this was quite the reminder of why when it's good in New England there is no where else I'd rather be.

Here is the end result of a day spending more time in the water than on land.

Not a bad place to call home.

No matter how crowded there will always be empty perfection.

O Canada

One of the days when no matter how tired your arms are, you continue to paddle back out over and over again.

The golden hour on the East Coast.

As the Moon begin to rise it was finally time to call it quits.
